When it comes to social media, my do's and don'ts are not complicated. My do's are I like to keep track of how long I spend on it, I go on to laugh, I check the different group chats I'm in and crack jokes with friends. Sometimes we get into heated arguments about sports or a problem we might have with each other so I sometimes play the instigator role or peacemaker. I also like to post on my story on instagram, funny memes or post the beats that I make but I am quick to delete after realizing it's not funny anymore or I don't like it. My don'ts of social media are not paying attention to how many people view my story or like my pictures because I get anxiety once I worry about stuff like that. I don't like to spend too much time on social media or else I will feel like I have accomplished nothing for the day. My social media behavior actually changed drastically from when I first got on it. I was the type of person to never post or show my face. In middle school I posted a picture of myself twice on Facebook and never did it again till now. I was always the type to watch others instead of posting any content myself. Nowadays I stay on Twitter and Instagram and post a selfie once every fourth months. I also post my organization at school, Neg Kreyol, Inc flyers for events that we are having. If I could go back, I wish that I knew to not worry about what other people think of me and to not take social media serious and just be myself.
For social media and self-expression I feel as if we can all post or say anything we want but there is right or wrong and we have to follow that. There are so many rules to self-expression because other people use it in a negative way to hate on other people. I just don’t think there is no place for hate. I think selfies are cool and it is also a form of art. Online images are also a form of art that I like to see and it makes it more interesting to have then just having words. The rules/ criteria for posting are too complicated and there is a lot of hypocrisy. Comparing yourself to others isn’t something people should do because it causes your self esteem to go down or gives you anxiety but if you are comparing yourself to others to work harder than that’s fine with me. Quitting social media is also a good way to live life because it gives you more time to do activities and it forces you to be more social.
